On February 19, 2025, BSU Bokod Campus in Benguet held a successful closing and graduation ceremony for 25 Training for Work Scholarship (TWSP) Scholars of the Masonry NC II program. Along with their training certificates, the scholars also received their scholarship allowances.
The event was organized by Ronel G. Simon, Instructor I of BSU Bokod Campus, who emphasized the importance of an NC II certification as a key qualification for employment, highlighting its value over the scholarship allowance.
Ferdinand B. Montaรฑez, Center Administrator of the Provincial Training Center Benguet (PTC Benguet), praised the supplementary training, stating that the program helped equip each participant with valuable skills, making them competent for the workforce.
Arlene S. Lamsis, Community Training and Employment Coordinator (CTEC) of Bokod, updated attendees on the ongoing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between BSU Bokod Campus and PTC Benguet and expressed gratitude for the continued training support. She also emphasized that Masonry NC II is highly sought after by construction companies and recommended additional programs like construction painting, tile setting, and carpentry to further build a skilled workforce in the community. “Ang goal namin ay maging skilled community ang Bokod para kami na ang gagawa ng sarili naming bahay at hindi na kami hahanap pa ng laborers outside Bokod,โ she stated.
Violeta B. Bugtong, Dean of CAT in BSU Bokod Campus, reiterated that the faculty of Industrial Arts requires their students to have a National Certificate (NC) before they graduate because having such is crucial for employment. She also appreciated that the training was inclusive and gender-sensitive even if it was for the construction industry.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates and allowances. Scholarship training such as Masonry NC I, Trainerโs Methodology, and Computer Hardware Servicing were also planned to be conducted at BSU Bokod Campus before the first quarter of the year ends.
