BAGUIO CITY- A total of 18 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates were hired on the spot in the latest World Café of Opportunities (WCO) conducted during the celebration of the 28th year anniversary of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) here.

There were 563 registered applicants who took their chances for employment in the event.

TESDA CAR Assistant Regional Director Jimmicio S. Daoaten said that through the WCO, TESDA bridges the tech-voc graduates to the different companies to make them become productive.

Adding, “TESDA played a vital role in producing world-class and world ready Filipino workforce especially during the pandemic.”

A total of 18 TVET graduates were Hired-On-The-Spot , while 147 were classified as nearly hired applicants.

There were 10 local companies and three overseas manpower agencies joined the World Café of Opportunities last August 25, 2022 as part of TESDA’s 25th anniversary.

There were a total of 1,744 job vacancies offered in the latest WCO.

Meanwhile, TESDA CAR OIC Regional Director Jovencio M. Ferrer Jr., lauded the different line agencies, tech-voc institutions, stakeholders, and participating employers for the success of the conduct of the World Café of Opportunities.

He also said that TESDA CAR will continue to provide quality programs and services to all of its clients and vowed to reach everyone and provide access to quality tertiary education.

RTESD Chairman Atty. Betty Lourdes F. Tabanda congratulated TESDA for its 28th year anniversary and for the conduct of the WCO for the TVET alumni.

Adding, “I think it is a very noble idea to conduct this (WCO) because after all TESDA is not only supposed to be for training because we want to make sure that the training will be put to good use by all our trainees.”

She also challenged TESDA CAR to conduct the WCO in every province of CAR. She said that through this, the skilled TVET graduates will have an opportunity to apply the skills they have gained in their own respective areas for sustainable development.

PESO Baguio Labor and Employment Officer Romelda Escaño, who represented Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, said that WCO is one of the concrete answers to the skills mismatch phenomenon in the country. She also commended TESDA for providing the training necessary to fill the gaps of skills mismatch. She stressed the vital role of tech-voc courses for economic growth.

World Café of Opportunities

World Café of Opportunities (WCO) through Job Linkaging and Networking Services of one of the strategies in linking TVET graduates/alumni to immediate employment opportunities.

It is a one-stop shop for TVET graduates/alumni, wherein national government agencies, private companies, tech-voc institutions, and financing institutions all converge in strategic locations to offer all possible employment, training and financing opportunities and facilitie higher job-skills matching.

WCO is one of the highlights for the 25th TESDA anniversary and celebration of National Tech-Voc Day on August 25.

It is like sector-based job fair aiming to connect government and private agencies to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates.
