Earth Day is an international event that calls all government agencies and non-government institutions to participate in making actions and commitments in protecting the planet Earth. The official theme for Earth Month 2024 is ‘‘Planet Vs. Plastic’’. This serves as a rallying cry to address one of our time’s most pressing environmental issues – plastic pollution. Thus, TESDA, CSITE-Kalinga took part and successfully celebrated Earth Month with their theme “Empowering Change through Skills and Sustainability” on April 29, 2024, at the CSITE-Kalinga campus ground. The participants during the event were the personnel and staff from the TESDA-Kalinga Provincial Office, CSITE-Kalinga Campus Staff, Trainers, Job order personnel, and trainees from three different qualifications such as Masonry NC II, Tile Setting NC II, and Driving NC II.
The program held at CSITE-Kalinga Park was an awe-inspiring tribute to the natural world. The day started at 8:00 AM sharp with a serene and calming opening prayer, followed by the singing of the Philippine Anthem. After that, all participants were requested to participate in the physical exercise by dancing Zumba. Came next was the program proper where all the speakers delivered their messages. Mr. Sherwin C. Bali, the acting administrator of CSITE-Kalinga Campus gave his welcome remarks. He opened the program by providing a little background and definition of Earth Day. Ms. Madeleine W. Lomeng, A Senior TESD Specialist II from the Provincial office discussed and gave insight into everyone’s duties and responsibilities in caring for Mother Earth. She emphasized that each provides a vital role in protecting the planet Earth. She added that every institution must incorporate GREEN TVET into all qualifications and curricula since it is one way to increase human well-being and social justice while reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcity. Moreover, video clips on environmental issues were presented to bring awareness of the status of the earth regarding pollution and degradation. Finally, the program ended at 11:30 AM with Ms. Erlinda T. Noval’s closing remark while everyone was given a delectable snack, a black coffee, and a boiled sweet potato.
