On February 14, 2026, love and appreciation filled the grounds of Benguet National High School as the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Department of Education (DepEd) partnered for the Valentine’s Day Teachers and Principals Makeover. The initiative gathered 100 teachers, principals, and non-teaching personnel from the DepEd – Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) for a meaningful day dedicated to self-care, wellness, and appreciation.
In his virtual message, TESDA Secretary Jose Francisco “Kiko” B. Benitez shared that he knows teachers truly deserve this special treat. He hoped that the simple gesture would touch their hearts just as they continuously touch the hearts of their students. He also highlighted the strengthened collaboration among TESDA, DepEd, and CHED, including the provision of free assessment for senior high school learners to ensure they are job-ready. He encouraged everyone to maximize digital innovations such as the TESDA Passport, where trainees can conveniently sign up right at their fingertips. Emphasizing unity, he affirmed that “pag sama-sama ang DepEd at TESDA, kayang-kaya”.
Meanwhile, DepEd Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” M. Angara expressed his hope that everyone would enjoy the activity. He extended his gratitude to teachers and school leaders for their sacrifices, passion, and hard work for the Filipino children, reminding them to take time to appreciate and enjoy the moment.
TESDA CAR Acting Regional Director Glenn N. Murphy shared that Valentine’s Day is not only about the love we give others, but also the love we give ourselves as we continue serving. DepEd CAR Regional Director Estela P. Leon-Cariño added that teachers often have little time for self-care due to their dedication in the classrooms, reminding everyone that love in teaching is grounded in honesty and genuine concern for learners. Together with TESDA Benguet Acting Provincial Director Arlene L. Cadalig and DepEd CAR Assistant Regional Director Ronald B. Castillo, they reaffirmed the strong partnership of TESDA and DepEd in supporting and uplifting educators.
Moreover, TESDA training centers, Blue Phenix Skills Training Corporation and Northskills Polytechnic College, Inc., provided free massage and manicure-pedicure services. Likewise, Binnadang Center of Skills & Livelihood Development Inc. conducted a Barista (Coffee Appreciation) demonstration and served freshly brewed coffee, while KPH Culinary, Inc. showcased a salad demonstration and prepared healthy dishes for participants. Benguet Technical School offered hair services, and the Provincial Training Center–Benguet shared their love cookies.
More than a makeover, the celebration became a heartfelt reminder that educators deserve moments of rest, recognition, and renewal. Through unity, shared commitment, and love for service, TESDA and DepEd once again proved that “pag sama sama, kayang-kaya” in uplifting the teaching community.
