In observance of National Womenโs Month, the Cordillera State Institute of Technical Education (CSITE) Main Campus Gender and Development (GAD) focal, Maryjul Dulagan, scheduled a skills training in Construction Painting for the 36 employees, a non-traditional training for women.
The specific objectives of the activity are to support the Womenโs Month celebration, engage female employees in non-traditional skills training, and promote camaraderie and unity among all the employees.
The endeavor was conducted today, March 21, 2024, at the CSITE Main Campus. Randy Jay N. Pumihic, trainer in a construction-related program, conducted the activity. The first part of the training is a 3-hour lecture and demonstration on construction safety, familiarization with the tools, supplies and materials needed in construction painting and the fundamentals of carpentry. The activity was conducted on March 20, 2024, at the Carpentry Laboratory.
On March 21, 2024, an opening program was held where the Acting Administrator, Felixberto B. Matute, Jr., welcomed and inspired the participants.
“Throughout history, you have played important roles in shaping our societies, driving progress, and advocating for equality. Your contributions are invaluable and critical. In our professional environments, the presence of women enriches our teams with diverse perspectives, creativity, and resilience. And so as your Administrator, I would want to express my delight in working with the women in the workplace,” Mr. Matute stated.
โWomen are wonderfully and fearfully made by the Lord and so, fellow men, let us respect the women in the workplace, and at the same time, treat them as equals, especially in men-dominated professions and trades such as the hard trades sector. If men can, women can,โ he added.
After the short program, a brief orientation was done by the GAD focal and the trainer before the participants headed to their respective areas to complete their tasks by the application of the skills learned. Each participant wore personal protective equipment (PPE) and was provided with tools, supplies and materials.
The participants were divided into 4 groups through draw lots. Each group has a task to accomplish. The first group was tasked to repaint the rainbow stairs, the second group painted the 3D walkway, the third group repainted the Tourism building facade, the fourth group repainted the walls, and the last group repainted the roof of the CSITE old building.
The employees, both men and women, were amazed upon looking at their accomplishments. With the satisfaction shown on the faces of the participants, we can say, CSITE achieved the objectives set. //vwt
